North East

To celebrate the beauty of the North East Above the Action have filmed some of the must-visit locations across the region including Newcastle, Gateshead, South Shields, North Shields, Sunderland, and Northumberland.

Using drone technology iconic landmarks such including the Angel of the North, the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge on Newcastle, Gateshead Quayside have been captured through cinematic filming to showcase them in all their glory.

South Shields

A must-visit tourist attraction in South Shields is Marsden Grotto, Europe’s only ‘cave pub’ cut into the 250 million-year-old cliffs surrounding Marsden Bay. Along the cliff tops is The Leas, a two-mile coastal route that is also the finishing line for Great North Run annual autumn event. This popular route provides fantastic coastal views and is a great vantage point of Marsden Rock nestled down on the bay.

North Shields

Tynemouth in North Shields is home to Tynemouth Priory and Castle, which overlooks the North Sea and the River Tyne. In its shadow is King Edward’s Bay, a small, sandy shore that’s a perfect place to escape from the crowds that tend to head to Tynemouth Longsands, a mile-long golden beach.

Newcastle upon Tyne

Flowing through the heart of NewcastleGateshead quayside is the River Tyne which has seven bridges connecting Newcastle and Gateshead. The most iconic bridges are the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge which opened in 2001.


On the south bank of the River Tyne is Sage Gateshead a landmark live music venue that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The unique building offers panoramic views of the quayside including BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art just along from the venue.


At the mouth of the River Wear is the city of Sunderland which boasts coastal beauty and many cultural experiences. The sandy beaches of Seaburn and Roker along Sunderland’s seafront are perfect for days out at the seaside and also home to Sunderland International Airshow, Europe’s largest free air shows that takes place in July each year.


The crown jewel of the North, Northumberland offers fantastic coastal destinations such as Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnwick, and Amble to name just a few along the shoreline stretching from the Scottish border down to Newcastle. While just off the coast is Holy Island and Farne Islands.
